Our team and new challenge!

Hi my name is Kaitlin. I am part of a First Lego League (FLL) Robotics team called the Molokai Middle School GoldenEyes. Our team is made up of a variety of ages, grades and schools. There are 6th, 7th, and 8th on our team. There is Lily, Katy, Noah, Eric, Caele and me Kaitlin. Our coaches names are Mr. Gonzales and Aunty Jenn. The theme this year for FLL is to create a device that will help senior citizens to be independent, connected, and engaged. We are judged on a variety or components including- The FLL Core Values, Robot and Project. We have to create an innovative solution that solves a common problem facing senior citizens and present it, as well as build and program a robot to complete specific missions as well as present and justify it to a panel of judges. They will be checking to see how we built our robot and why we choose to program it the way we did. It is a lot of work, but for many of us this is our 2nd or 3rd year so we are looking forward to the challenge. Thank you for visiting our blog! ~Kaitlyn

Interviews!!

My name is Caele Manley, and I am on the GoldenEyes Middle School Robotics team. On Tuesday, September 18, we had the privilege of interviewing two different people who deal with senior citizens on a daily basis. The first person is a public health nurse, and her name is Lulu. She told us that the biggest problem for senior citizens on Molokai is that there are not enough services for them. The second lady that we interviewed was named Rachelle, and she works for the Maui County Office of Aging. She told us that she services over 150 people and 30 of them suffer from dementia. When we told her about our project, she said "a device that would help senior citizens with facial recognition would be just wonderful!" Thanks for visiting our blog.
